In intensive care – Slovak Prime Minister Fico was operated on again

Date:

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who was seriously injured in an assassination attempt, remains in intensive care. He was operated on again on Friday, said his deputy Robert Kaliňák (see video above). The politician’s condition is serious, but there is progress.

It will take several days before the prospects for recovery can be assessed. “Necrotic tissue from the gunshot wound was removed. The patient is now conscious, stable, but still admitted to the emergency room. His condition is really serious,” said Miriam Lapuníková, director of Roosevelt Hospital. “The first four days after a gunshot wound are the most difficult,” Kaliňák added. A decision is expected to be made on Monday on whether the Slovak prime minister will be moved to the capital Bratislava.

As reported, Fico was hit in the stomach by five shots at close range during a meeting with citizens on Wednesday. The arrested suspected murderer is a 71-year-old former security guard, amateur writer and opponent of the Slovak Prime Minister. His apartment has now been searched.

New threats against politicians and journalists
He is being investigated for attempted murder. The police have already received new threats against politicians and media professionals. Public broadcaster RTVS has tightened security measures and part of the Slovak Radio Building in Bratislava was temporarily closed on Thursday.

If the head of government resigns for health reasons, the entire government is dissolved in accordance with the constitution.
