Pentecost is one of the busiest travel weekends of the year: traffic jams were reported early on Pentecost Saturday in Salzburg and Tyrol. On the A10 (Tauernautobahn) in Salzburg, traffic stopped in front of a single-lane construction site. According to the ÖAMTC, the columns were sometimes 28 kilometers back to the Salzburg junction. The travelers lost between three and sometimes five hours of time.
Thousands of holidaymakers from Austria and Germany want to head south this long weekend – traffic jam chaos on the Tauern motorway is almost inevitable. There was already a traffic jam of up to 20 kilometers long on Friday, the Kleine Zeitung reported. I had to take into account three hours of extra travel time.
An hour lost on the Brenner highway
The mobility club also recorded lively traffic in Tyrol. On the A13 (Brennerautobahn) towards Brenner between Zenzenhof and the Schönberg toll booth, the time lost was approximately one hour. In the opposite direction there was stop-and-go traffic between the Schlierbach Bridge and the Stubai Valley.
Gradual progress over the Fernpass
According to the ÖAMTC, holidaymakers also made only gradual progress over the Fern Pass (B179) in the Imst district. In total, about an hour of time was lost on the journey south, the car club ARBÖ also reports.
Long traffic jams in Switzerland too
There were also miles of traffic jams in neighboring Switzerland. The Touring Club Switzerland (TCS) announced on Platform X that cars were queuing for 16 kilometers for the Gotthard Tunnel. The lost time for the drivers there amounted to a maximum of two hours and 40 minutes.
