Two thieves have stolen more than €10,000 from various business cash registers across Austria in just one month. The State Criminal Investigation Department has now published the police photos and is urgently appealing for information about the two perpetrators.
The trail of the wanted perpetrators runs straight through Austria. Their excursion started in Oberwart. As reported, the criminals attacked Alexandra T.’s business almost six weeks ago. Around 4 p.m., an offender asked about children’s shoes in English. At the back of the sales room he took a model from the shelf and talked to the boss about the correct shoe size.
Perpetrator distracted woman
Only later did it become clear that the tall, muscular man’s job was to distract the trader. While the ‘customer’ tried to draw all attention to himself, his accomplice sneaked into the store and got down on all fours to grab T.’s wallet, which was in her purse under the desk. It was only when his white baseball cap, which he wore backwards, was visible above the wooden table that the thief was noticed. He also pretended to be an innocent customer.
Saleswoman took pictures
“I wanted to confront him. I noticed that my wallet was not sitting horizontally in my handbag, but vertically. All banknotes, a total of 300 euros, were gone,” the boss said. “Really, you took my money?” the victim asked the thief. “The man crouching in front of me looked at me in surprise and ran away shortly afterwards,” T. describes the incident.
Meanwhile, the powerfully built accomplice walked out of the store. “Everything he wanted to know from me about the infancy suddenly no longer interested him,” says T. At least she still had enough time to take pictures of the suspects with her mobile phone.
More coups
The police are now looking for the perpetrators with police photos. After the coup in Burgenland, the professionals committed a total of eleven thefts in smaller retail stores in Carinthia, Salzburg and Tyrol. In all cases, the duo followed the same pattern.
The researchers hope for information from room tenants on the route from St. Veit an der Glan via Spittal an der Drau, Mittersill and St. Johann to Wörgl: Tiroler Staatsrecherche on 059 133/70-3333 or another police station.
