Police in Upper Austria were able to arrest two internationally wanted murder suspects in Hohenzell (Ried im Innkreis district) on Monday.
The two Indian nationals are strongly suspected of, along with seven other Indians, brutally murdering another Indian national in the British town of Shrewsbury on August 21, 2023, as the State Criminal Investigation Department of Upper Austria announced on Tuesday morning.
Reference to Upper Austria
Five suspects have already been arrested in Great Britain. Four perpetrators were each sentenced to 28 years in prison for murder and one perpetrator was sentenced to ten years in prison for manslaughter. The remaining four suspects managed to escape, although one suspect was suspected of having a possible connection with Upper Austria and the British authorities therefore contacted the intended search group of the State Criminal Investigation Department of Upper Austria via Interpol Vienna.
The investigators of the Upper Austrian Criminal Police have now managed to identify and investigate the suspect with a possible connection to Upper Austria, as well as another suspect who accompanied him – who was not initially suspected to be in Austria. Both suspects were taken to Ried/Innkreis prison for extradition.
