Near excursion destination – 4 people in danger of death after lightning in Dresden

Date:

Ten people were injured on Monday evening when lightning struck near a popular tourist destination in Dresden. Four of them are still in mortal danger. Weather expert Jörg Kachelmann warned that there was only “weak lightning” and that there were no fatalities. People have forgotten “what to do when storm clouds gather,” Kachelmann said angrily on Platform X.

Lightning struck the banks of the Elbe on the evening of Whit Monday – in the immediate vicinity of the rose garden. The fire brigade reported on social media that the storm cell had passed over the city around 5 p.m. and that there was a massive attack.

Here the spokesman for the Dresden fire brigade reports on the operation:

Four people were injured so seriously that their lives were in danger. Two men, aged 27 and 30, were resuscitated after cardiac arrest.

Helicopter searched for more injured people
A total of three women and seven men between the ages of 26 and 41 were injured. They complained of typical complaints after a lightning strike, such as tingling in the limbs. According to the information, all patients received initial emergency medical care and were then distributed to surrounding hospitals. The police cordoned off the area and a helicopter was also deployed to locate any other injured people.

In this article you can see photos of the operation – an hour after the lightning struck, the sun was shining again:

The German Weather Service in Leipzig warned of heavy thunderstorms in parts of Saxony early in the evening. In Dresden, among other places, there was a chance of thunderstorms of level two in four. It was initially unclear exactly how the accident could have happened. The police are investigating.

Kachelmann warns of a ‘murderous summer’
Weather expert Kachelmann suspected that the tragedy could have been prevented. “It will be a murderous summer if the potato collective has generally forgotten what to do when storm clouds gather,” was his harsh assessment of X (see post above). He polemically stated that “seminars on YouTube and TikTok” are needed.

The warning time would have been shorter than normal because the cell had formed just above Dresden, Kachelmann explained in another article. Yet he finds it incomprehensible that ‘there were still people outside’ after the first lightning struck seven minutes before the actual event.
