A huge pile of scrap metal burns in the 2nd Hafenstrasse in Hamburg-Harburg. The fire brigade announced that approximately 60,000 kilos of metal was on fire in an area of ​​20 by 30 meters. About 80 emergency services are on site and are doing their best to get the situation under control.

The fire brigade examines the cloud with measuring equipment and checks it for contaminants. Thousands of liters of water are pumped into the embers. In addition, there is also a fire boat on site, reports ‘Bild’, among others.

Neighbors were warned via app: “Fume gases from a fire can endanger you in the Hamburg-Heimfeld region. The smoke cloud is moving towards the northeast. The following districts are affected: Heimfeld, Harburg, Wilhelmsburg.”

The fire brigade had to block shipping traffic in the southern Elbe area. Because they want to pull the burning scrap metal out of the water with grabs. It should then be removed in small quantities at a time.
