In Berlin, police evacuated the occupied Humboldt University building on Thursday (see video above). About 150 activists protested against the actions of the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip and for solidarity with Palestine.
The occupation was declared late Thursday evening. Some activists left voluntarily, others had to be removed. The police forced open the closed and partially barricaded doors and escorted people out. There she determined the identity of the demonstrators. According to an eyewitness, the mood was angry. According to initial information, there were no injuries.
Property damage and anti-Semitism
The police noted material damage and started an investigation into anti-Semitic and inflammatory statements. The building was put into use on Wednesday. On that day, officers arrested 23 pro-Palestinian protesters and launched 25 criminal investigations.

The protests were against the actions of the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip, but also against the Israeli government as a whole. University President Julia von Blumenthal spoke with occupiers and employees on Thursday.
Mayor: “No lawless spaces”
Criticism of this approach came from, among others, Berlin mayor Kai Wegner (CDU). Universities are “not lawless spaces for anti-Semites and terrorist sympathizers.” There have been repeated protests at German universities against Israel’s actions in the war. Just a few weeks ago, police broke up an occupation of the Free University of Berlin.
