Arena Power Solar calls for the installation of a wind farm in Eibar, Elgeta and Bergara

Date:

The Basalgo park would be the largest in the area with its six wind turbines and almost 40 Megawatts of power. The request comes 24 hours after another, that of Ikatz Gane, in the municipality of Hernani. With these two, there are now seven wind farm projects in Gipuzkoa.

The Basque government is now dealing with this seven wind farm projects in Gipuzkoa, in various administrative stages, after receiving two new applications in just over 24 hours.

The last folder to land on the table of the Ministry of Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment was that of the Spanish company Arena Power Solarwhich the Basque government has requested authorization prior administration for a project eolico park building on land Eibar, Elgeta and Bergara. The park of Basalgo, with its 6 wind turbines and almost 40 Megawatts of power, that would be the case the largest in the area.

The request, published on Friday in the Official Gazette of Gipuzkoa (BOG), was announced on May 15 by the territorial delegate of the Industrial Administration of Gipuzkoa, Agustín Arostegi.

The mayor of Bergara, Gorka Artola (EH Bildu), in statements to EITB Media, responded with “all caution” to this request, which they heard about through the Bulletin, and indicated that the municipal council will have to remove all documentation related to the project in order to to be able to analyze and make “the right decision”.

In this regard, Artola has stressed that these are “very sensitive” projects that generate “all types of opinions”, and that it will therefore be necessary to conduct an “in-depth” analysis of the project.

This request comes only 24 hours after the request for prior administrative permit for the wind farm was published in the BOG. Ikatz Ganein the municipal area of Hernani, Realised by Enigma Green Power 26. A park with a capacity of 33 Megawatts, spread over five mills in the area of the Adarra and Zaburu mountains, on the border with Navarre.

Seven projects, only in Gipuzkoa

These two new proposals are added to the five projects that were already on the table at the Ministry of Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment.

On the one hand the three projects from Capital energy: Trekutz (in Urretxu-Antzuola), Buruzai (in Azkoitia-Zumarraga) and Ezkeltzu (between Zizurkil and Usurbil). All municipal councils (EHBildu, PNV and PSE) are against these parks.

And on the other side two Norwegian projects Statkraft: Itsaraz, between Eskoriatza and Aramaio; and Piaspe, between Azpeitia, Errezil and Zestoa.

Precisely this second project, that of Piaspe, received this week joint accusations of the three affected municipalities, as “not all necessary requirements have been met to make the project viable.”

The allegations include the need to conduct new environmental, biodiversity and wildlife impact studies of the project. Partly because the area in which Piaspe will be built is located among the areas that have been declared of special conservation interest in the Natura 2000 network, such as the Pagoeta, Izarraitz and Hernio-Gazume Natural Parks.

However, the three municipal councils have reiterated their commitment to sustainable energy, which is “essential for the eco-socialist transition”, and have asked the Basque government to “publicly lead” this process.
