A motorist (38) was injured in a collision with a truck in the Tyrolean town of Ausserfern on Friday and had to be flown to hospital by rescue helicopter. The truck driver was uninjured.
One person was injured in a road accident near the Lermoos Tunnel on the busy Fernpass Road (B179) on Friday morning. As a result, the tunnel was closed for several hours.
After a 38-year-old Serb drove his car through the tunnel, he hit a curb and hit the side of an oncoming truck. The injured driver was then flown by rescue helicopter to the clinic in Innsbruck.
I’ve already moved into the oncoming lane
The man had previously crossed into the oncoming lane near the northern tunnel portal for an unknown reason and struck a guardrail, police said. The Serbian then continued his journey. There was significant damage to both the car and truck. The truck driver was uninjured.
An hour-long closure
The tunnel was closed for several hours. Traffic was diverted to Lermoos, but there were still significant traffic jams. In addition to the rescue helicopter crew, the fire brigades of Lermoos and Biberwier and the executive staff were also present.
