New citizens’ initiative – residents against planned chalet village at Stubeck

Date:

A tourism project in the Sonnalm region is giving some people stomach aches. A newly created citizens’ initiative is calling for a reconsideration of the project.

A planned chalet village on the Sonnalm is described as “oversized”. As reported, three luxury chalets are being built there by the Fender family business. And in the coming years the area will be expanded with additional chalets, a restaurant and a wellness area. The residents of the Sonnalm, where there are mainly huts and second homes, are not happy about this.

“We don’t want to prevent anything, but the project needs to be reconsidered,” says Sarah Auer, chairman of the newly established citizens’ initiative “Livable Stubeck”. Many issues have not yet been clarified for the citizen movement. “The Sonnalm is already densely populated, but such a large project will have a huge impact on the flora and fauna. “In addition, there are not enough parking spaces available,” said a local resident who expressed her concerns during a local inspection.

The residents of the neighboring town of Kreuschlach are also not happy with the expected increase in traffic. “The path there is also private; it is used as a toboggan run in winter and is not sandy.” “There is no ski lift and there are not enough hiking trails.”

Further discussions are ongoing
According to Fender, further discussions are ongoing. There is no shortage of parking spaces. An underground parking garage is planned. The project is a “good source of income” for the community. The planned project in this form has not yet been determined.
