Outraged parents were sent away with a feverish toddler in the acute outpatient clinic of the Kepler Clinic in Linz. Fortunately, the doctor got help.
It’s a widespread “parenting wisdom”: Kids usually get sick on weekends or when the pediatrician isn’t in the office. Selina Z. from Leonding also had to experience this. Son Julius had a fever of 40 degrees on Tuesday, the pediatrician had no consultation hours. So the young parents drove the feverish child to the children’s clinic in Linz.
Instead of quick help for the eleven-month-old son, they encountered bureaucratic corona hurdles: the mother (29) was not allowed to go to the university clinic because her vaccination card had expired. The father (28), who had gone to the acute outpatient clinic with Julius, was told that the little one could not be treated without a corona test. “What would we have done if it had been a dangerous disease? We didn’t know that”, Selina Z. is still annoyed. After being removed from Kepler University Hospital, the family went to the family doctor, who prescribed Julius an antipyretic suppository.
Corona rules do not apply to children under the age of six
A hospital spokeswoman apologized to the Krone. The incident will be traced. For the current Corona rules, she refers to the homepage of the Kepler clinic. Under current corona regulations, outpatients are asked to come to the hospital vaccinated, recovered or tested. However, this rule does not apply to children under the age of six and of course also not to acute patients. “However, there may be times when a test is done before an acute patient is admitted to hospital,” the spokeswoman explains.
