Heavy police presence – Jehovah bomber: explosives also suspected in the house

Date:

Next major operation for the executive branch in the case of Jehovah bombers: On Wednesday evening, the house of Styrian (55) in Premstätten was searched. It is suspected that there are more explosives there…

On Wednesday, the man who caused fear and terror among Jehovah’s Witnesses in Styria fell into the hands of police. The 55-year-old Styrian, who is suspected of being behind several bomb attacks, has already confessed.

Maintenance dispute as motive
The IT professional was a Jehovah’s Witness himself from 1991 to 2011, was married to a woman from the religious community and has two children with her. But after the divorce he was expelled from the Jehovah’s Witnesses – what followed was a years-long alimony dispute with his ex-wife. Last year he clearly made the decision to kill her.

House in Premstätten searched
After several bomb attacks, which fortunately caused no casualties, investigators tracked down the man. As of Wednesday evening, Styrian’s house and property in Premstätten were searched by a large contingent of emergency services believed to be present; That is why the area surrounding the suspect’s home was cordoned off.

The man had previously admitted during interrogation that he had used a magnet to attach a pipe bomb to his ex’s car in early May. This led to a new large-scale operation in the Graz-Ries (Elisabethstrasse) area on Wednesday afternoon, including a police blockade. However, no evidence could be found for an actual explosive device, the director announced on Wednesday evening. Nevertheless, investigations continue.

“Help” among Jehovah’s Witnesses
However, there is great relief among Jehovah’s Witnesses: “We are grateful that authorities have arrested the perpetrator who, as police have confirmed, has been carrying out attacks on members of our faith in recent months,” said Markus Kakavis, spokesman for Jehovah’s Witnesses. Witnesses in Austria: “This news provides a measure of relief and security for all families and members of our religious community. During this period we especially appreciated the protective measures and support from the police, who took the threat very seriously.”
