Numerous emergency services had to rush to the Tauern motorway in Carinthia on Friday morning because a driver (19) lost control of his vehicle for unknown reasons and had an accident. Heroic rescuers freed the injured driver from the wreckage.
It is still unclear why the 19-year-old lost control of his vehicle shortly after 6am near Paternion. The driver left the road, struck a guardrail and was thrown back onto the road by the force of the impact.
“The heavily damaged car ended up on its side between the lanes,” says the Feistritz/Drau volunteer fire brigade. The following motorists were able to free the injured man from the wreckage of the accident. After initial medical treatment, the driver was taken to hospital by the rescue team with injuries.
The St. Peter/Spittal and Feistritz/Drau fire brigades were present, as well as the Red Cross, the police and a private towing company that removed the wreckage from the highway. The Tauernautobahn had to be completely closed for about an hour in the direction of Villach.
