Bavarian German Islam critic Michael Stürzenberger was injured on Friday afternoon in a knife attack at a meeting of the right-wing populist citizen movement Pax Europa in Mannheim (see video above). The 59-year-old was once a press spokesman for the CSU, but a terrorist attack in 2008 changed everything for him…
Born in 1964 in Bad Kissingen, Stürzenberger studied political science and history at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and subsequently worked as a journalist at RTL and Sat.1. He then entered politics and became press spokesman for the Bavarian ruling party CSU.

The death of his friend changed his attitude
After the death of a friend in the Islamist terrorist attacks in the Indian metropolis of Mumbai in 2008, he became increasingly radicalized and committed himself to the fight against Islam, including with the right-wing extremist movement Pegida, the newspaper ‘Bild’ and ‘Focus’ reported. He was therefore also observed by the Bavarian State Office for the Protection of the Constitution. Stürzenberger left the CSU and joined the “Die Freiheit” party.
Performance in Graz 2015 with legal consequences
He was also involved in mischief in Austria. At the end of March 2015, he took part in a Pegida meeting (for “Patriotic Europeans against the Islamization of the West”) in Graz and gave a speech. There he allegedly described all Muslims as potential terrorists. This statement had legal consequences. Judge Julia Riffl sentenced him to a four-month suspended prison sentence and a fine of 960 euros. The right-wing activists were accused at the time of being the Graz Greens.
Quran compared to Hitler’s “Mein Kampf
Side by side with NPD officials, he has already demonstrated against a large mosque in Munich and warned against the “Islamization” of Germany. He accused German politicians of not taking the dangers of Islam seriously. He compared the Koran to Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf. Stürzenberger describes himself as pro-Israel and pro-Ukrainian.
On Friday he was the victim of a knife attack in Mannheim. One of his colleagues reported to ‘Bild’ about his condition: ‘He was hit in the leg and face and is undergoing emergency surgery. Apparently there is no danger to life. It is the second serious attack on him.” In 2022 he was punched in the face by a Muslim in Bonn.
