The primary school in the Egelsee district of Krems (Lower Austria) has had an acute need for renovation for years. However, despite several expressions of political will, not enough has happened so far. Recently there was even water dripping from the ceiling. However, the municipality has not even made the issue urgent.
Almost a year ago, the municipality of Krems committed to maintaining the primary school in the beautiful Egelsee district. The building is getting old and needs renovation. However, very little has happened since the so-called fundamental decision. According to the ÖVP, neither budgetary resources nor development plans for the specific protection of primary schools were integrated into the education master plan. The situation only recently came to a head. In mid-May, water leaked in the entrance and cloakroom of the primary school.
Urgent request rejected
The cloakrooms on the wall between the old building and the extension had to be cleared immediately. The meter cupboard also suffered from water ingress. As early as 2023, a classroom on the top floor was unusable for weeks because there was suspicion of mold growth due to a damp ceiling.
“These examples show that there is an acute need for action,” says the city’s ÖVP. However, a corresponding urgent request from councilor Bernadette Laister from Egelsee during the council meeting at the end of May was rejected. SPÖ and FPÖ voted against.
