Facua is launching a platform for those affected by illegal carry-on baggage charging and other irregularities

Date:

It warns airlines that they will be alert to ‘possible collusion’.

Facua-Consumers in Action has been launched a platform for those affected by the extra costs for traveling with hand luggage and other alleged irregularities committed in the aviation sector, such as surcharges for printing the boarding pass at the airport or sitting next to a dependent person. Users can join the platform via the internet FACUA.org/aerofraudes.

The general secretary of Facua, Ruben Sanchezhas explained the details of this new platform and warned airlines to be alert to it possible “collusion” to increase prices that could violate the Competition Act.

“We are going to facilitate mechanisms to recover both the additional costs for traveling with hand luggage and other irregular costs applied by the aviation sector,” Sánchez explained, stating that the sum of consumer actions in parallel with the processing of the macro fine of 150 million euros imposed on four airlines could lead to the eradication of this practice and put an end to “an illegality that has been committed for six years now”.

Last week, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs imposed ample sanctions 150 million euros to Ryanair, Volotea, Vueling and EasyJet due to the application of additional charges for users for taking luggage on board, due to the seat selection when the traveler is accompanied by children or dependent persons, due to the lack of transparency in contract information, as well as due to the printing costs of the boarding pass at the airport.

Facua will provide consumers who join this new platform with advice on how to claim the refund of amounts illegally charged by airlines, advise them on the costs incurred and the mechanisms and provide precise instructions to make this claim to serve.
