Austria’s first female chancellor, Brigitte Bierlein, has died. According to information from the “Krone”, the former president of the Constitutional Court succumbed to a short, serious illness. She was 74 years old.
In a message on “Out of love for the republic and its homeland Austria. Our country owes her a lot of gratitude!” Nehammer wrote.
Bierlein was appointed in 2019 by Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen as the first woman to head the Austrian federal government after the Ibiza scandal and the collapse of the Kurz government.
