A young person with drug problems would not have been given a place in the child and adolescent psychiatry in Hall. “That is simply wrong,” emphasizes Kathrin Sevecke, director of child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy in Hall and Innsbruck. The Freedom Party, on the other hand, criticizes the grievances.
As the “Tiroler Krone” has reported in recent days, the young person is said to have tried to get rid of the addiction – for example through drug rehabilitation. Informants emphasized to the “Krone” that there was no place for the young Tyrolean in child and youth psychiatry.
An aspect that Kathrin Sevecke, director of child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy in Hall and Innsbruck, cannot confirm. “In principle, all young people who want to get rid of their addiction are offered a therapeutic offer – not just once, but again and again. That is what the disease entails,” she emphasizes.
The assistance can be provided at the outpatient clinic, in the crisis area, in the protected area “at the request of the young person”, in the therapy department, in the day clinic or in “home treatment”.
Limited capacities lead to waiting times
“So there is always room with us. For a place in ‘home treatment’ or in the therapy department, preparatory discussions must be held, general terms and conditions must be observed and a certain degree of motivation must be present,” Sevecke explains in an interview with the “Tiroler Krone”.
However, due to limited capacity, there would be waiting times for a place in “Home Treatment” – there are a total of five places available – and in the therapy department – here we are talking about a total of six places. “There is always an immediate space available in the crisis and acute area – if the patients want it. But that is not always the case,” emphasizes the director of child and adolescent psychiatry.
“No one does anything about it”
Markus Abwerzger, state party leader of the Freedom Party, is once again concerned about the state of psychiatric care for young people with addiction in Tyrol. “We have been warning about abuses in this area for years. For example, the efforts of LR Eva Pawlata (SPÖ) are not enough. The problem of too few beds is a known problem, but no one is doing anything about it,” Abwerzger emphasizes.
He continues: “Black state health board member Cornelia Hagele must also be held accountable in this case. A bed should always be available immediately – and not six months from now. The tragic end is not the withdrawal, but the pathology.”
