Scammers are using a new scam to take money out of the pockets of seniors. An accomplice appeared in Burgenland, posing as a Caritas employee. The unknown perpetrator stole savings and expensive jewelry from the victim’s home. Quest!
The investigation has been in full swing since Monday afternoon. Around 11 a.m., the fraudster knocked on the door of a pensioner’s house near the district headquarters in Neusiedl am See. When the 70-year-old resident opened the door, the stranger posed as a Caritas employee.
Fallen into a trap
However, there was no trace of the charity and selfless goodwill that the Christian organization stands for. The victim only later realized what the visitor really intended. The alleged Caritas helper left after a short conversation. Only then did the 70-year-old realize that both cash and valuable jewelry were missing from her home.
Perpetrator escapes
Shocked, the pensioner called the police. A manhunt was immediately launched. However, the search for the perpetrator failed. According to the witness, the woman they were looking for was wearing a pink T-shirt and dark jeans. The unidentified woman has dark hair tied in a ponytail.
The police hope for help
In the case of the 70-year-old in Neusiedl am See, the damage amounts to more than 5,000 euros. We warn against further fraud attempts. The Neusiedl am See police station is investigating. You can request all relevant information via 059 133 1130.
