The feeding table was empty, the litter area was heavily soiled with feces, the water troughs did not work or were completely without water – cattle belonging to a farmer in the Salzkammergut apparently lived in appalling conditions. Almost all of them now had to be slaughtered and the owner was reported.
Authorities and the official veterinarian checked a farm in the Salzkammergut on May 28. And they discovered that the feeding table was empty, the litter area was heavily soiled with feces and the water bowls were either not working or completely without water. So unfortunately it is no surprise: according to the police, the animals were extremely emaciated and injured due to the circumstances.
Company cleaned up
Three days later, agriculture was inspected again. Because the defects had not been remedied, the Vöcklabruck district council ordered the company to be evacuated immediately.
Ten emergency slaughters
Of the 105 cattle, 94 had to be slaughtered, ten of which had to be slaughtered immediately on site due to their poor condition. The remaining animals were distributed to surrounding farms.
The farmer involved – who has not yet responded to the allegations – is now charged with animal cruelty.
