Upper Austria: Farmer reported – 94 animals dead: Shocking photos from a cattle shed

Date:

These are shocking visual documents (see below) of incredible animal abuse on a farm in Attergau in Upper Austria: a farmer left his animals to starve and stand knee-deep in mud, and one cow even had an iron chain in its neck. A veterinarian cleared the stables and took away 105 cattle. There was no more rescue for 94 animals…

The farmer (56) from the Upper Austrian district of Vöcklabruck apparently left his 105 cattle completely neglected. Due to the desolate conditions, the district administration ordered the evacuation of the stables last week. The animals were taken from the man, but the majority – 94 – had to be slaughtered, the police reported on Wednesday.

Feeding table empty, drinking troughs broken
The official veterinarian had already discovered numerous shortcomings on May 28: the feeding table was empty, the drinking troughs were broken and the litter was heavily contaminated with feces. The animals were emaciated, some were injured and some of their chains had become ingrown.

Because the farmer only resolved the situation during a new inspection three days later, the 105 cattle, including calves, were seized from him. To do this, the authority needed police support because the farmer was extremely uncooperative, a press release said.

Farmer charged with animal cruelty
94 animals had to be slaughtered, ten of which on site. The remaining animals were distributed among other farms. The farmer has been reported to both the district council and the Wels public prosecutor’s office for animal abuse.
