In southwestern France, a group of twelve primary school pupils on their way to cycling training in a park were hit by a car. Seven of the young cyclists were seriously injured.
One of the children was taken to hospital by helicopter with life-threatening injuries. The secretary general of the prefecture in the coastal town of La Rochelle, where the terrible accident took place, spoke of “terrible scenes”.

The children wore helmets and safety vests and were accompanied by two adults. The accident happened in zone 30. As the broadcaster France Bleu reported, an 83-year-old woman collided head-on with her small car with the group of students who were cycling one behind the other. The cause of the accident is still unknown.
