A four-year-old girl who was cycling was hit by a car and seriously injured in the Donaustadt district of Vienna on Saturday morning. According to the current state of the investigation, the child was not wearing a helmet – in addition to the driver, the child’s parents were also reported on suspicion of negligent bodily harm.
The child was walking with his parents on the sidewalk on Schiffmühlenstrasse around 10 a.m. when he suddenly wanted to cross the road with his bicycle at the intersection.
Child flown to hospital by helicopter
A 44-year-old driver was unable to brake in time and hit the four-year-old. The seriously injured girl was flown to hospital with the rescue helicopter “Christophorus”.
According to the police, it can be assumed that the four-year-old was not wearing a bicycle helmet. The parents – as well as the car driver – have been reported on suspicion of negligent bodily harm.
A similar accident took place in Lower Austria on Saturday afternoon: a five-year-old boy was hit by a car on a country road in Stössing (St. Pölten district). The child was flown to Donaupsital Vienna.
