A spectacular burglary took place in the Italian capital on Sunday evening. Criminals broke into the store of luxury jeweler Bulgari on Via Condotti, in the heart of Rome, through a hole in the floor.
Surprisingly, the thieves dug the hole themselves, as initial research results suggest. Once inside the store, the thieves barely had time to act. Still, they were able to capture several jewels; the loot amounts to around 500,000 euros, Italian media report.
The situation on the ground:
The shrill alarm went off immediately. Immediately afterwards, patrol cars arrived – but at that point there was already no sign of the force. It is suspected that the thieves also broke in through the sewer.
Many questions still remain unanswered
The investigation is still ongoing. The video surveillance cameras on the street in front of the store are currently being monitored. Via Condotti near the Spanish Steps is one of the most renowned shopping streets in the world. Luxury brands have their stores here.
