Must resign – Swedish politician sings ‘Foreigners out’

Date:

The rewritten version of the techno party hit “L’amour toujours” has now cost a Swedish parliamentarian his job. The politician from the right-wing populist Sweden Democrats sang ‘Foreigners out’ in German during the EU election party.

A journalist from the newspaper “Expressen” had analyzed the election results of the EU elections together with one of Lang’s party colleagues, when MP David Lang (see photos below) suddenly sang the xenophobic song in the background. The interview was therefore ended. On the journalist’s audio recording, you then hear Lang say “Oh shit” and ask if the reporter recorded that.

Politician apologizes, but loses mandate
Sweden Democrats group leader Linda Lindberg said she had asked Lang to resign from his seat, according to a statement from the party. He said he picked up the song on social media. “I now understand that the lyrics were sung in a context of which I previously had no detailed knowledge,” Lang said, according to the statement. He’s sorry if he offended anyone.

The Swedish Democrats came fourth in the EU elections with 13.2 percent. The strongest force was again the Social Democratic Party, followed by the Moderates and the Greens of Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.

Numerous similar incidents in Austria and Germany
There have been repeated incidents recently of racist slogans being chanted to Gigi D’Agostino’s Eurodance song. In Germany there was a video that caused a stir, showing young people in a bar on Sylt chanting ‘Germany for the Germans, foreigners out’. Incidents had also become known from other states in Germany and Austria.
