The Russian Air Force takes very good care of Putin’s most powerful fighter plane, the Su-57 “Felon” stealth jet. Since there are only a handful of examples available so far, it has not yet been used over Ukraine, but only in Russian airspace. A drone attack on a military airfield more than 600 kilometers from the front left one of the next generation fighter planes unable to fly.
The drone attack on the military airfield in the small town of Akhtubinsk on the Volga, which is almost 700 kilometers from the front, was confirmed by sources in Russia and promptly claimed as an action by the head of Ukrainian military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov of his agents. It remained unclear whether the drones were launched from Ukrainian territory – or from behind enemy lines. In Moscow, people seem to be taking the successful attack on the superfighter very seriously: military bloggers are using strong words to criticize the air force leadership.
