Nazi unrest in Munich – shouts of “Sieg Heil” in the beer garden: police arrived

Date:

Excitement in the Bavarian capital Munich: Several visitors shouted Nazi slogans in the beer garden of the famous Augustinerkeller on Tuesday evening. The police arrived.

As the “Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR)” reported, citing a witness, “Sieg Heil” was shouted loudly several times.

A dozen young men
The witness stated that there were about a dozen young men between the ages of 20 and 30 sitting at a table. Around 7 p.m., one of the men stood up, gave a short speech with a shot glass in hand and shouted “Sieg” several times, to which the group responded with “Heil.”

The “Sieg Heil” slogan of the National Socialists under Adolf Hitler has been banned in Germany and subject to criminal prosecution since the end of World War II.

Guests showed moral courage
Other visitors alerted staff, who alerted police. According to the report, the men were not allowed to leave until officers arrived. A police spokesperson confirms that there is a major operation in the restaurant.

Brewery shocked
The Augustiner Brewery responded to the incident on Wednesday morning. The director told the “Bild Zeitung”: “We learned of the incident with dismay and disgust. We formally reject such right-wing radical activities. The Augustiner Brewery stands for an open, tolerant and democratic world view.” They were happy that the staff quickly alerted the police. “There must always be immediate and consistent action against right-wing radical activities,” the Augustiner boss said.
