Serious accident on Wednesday evening in the Ottakring district of Vienna: a 24-year-old driver hit a group of pedestrians with his car during a dangerous evasive maneuver. Five people were injured, some seriously.
The 24-year-old was driving his BMW along the Lerchenfelder Belt around 8:45 p.m. when a vehicle braked in front of him. The young man then quickly changed lanes further to the right – but there were several parked vehicles there.
To avoid colliding with the parked cars, the man abruptly turned his car to the right and ended up on the sidewalk.
Three men taken to the trauma room
Several men standing in front of a bar were hit by the car. Three of the men, aged 24, 40 and 46, were seriously injured. The professional rescue team from Vienna provided first aid and took the seriously injured to a hospital, where they were immediately taken to the shock room.
Two other passers-by escaped with bruises. The 25-year-old and the 48-year-old received first aid from a team from the Green Cross and were also taken to hospital.
The 24-year-old driver of the accident was charged with bodily harm due to negligence in traffic. Further investigations are underway.
