After a tip from the public, a cattle farm in the Vöcklabruck district was checked – and closed on Thursday. “Because the animal owner was overwhelmed, there was a risk of delays for the kept animals,” said the responsible district administration. A nearby business was recently evacuated.
“From the authorities’ point of view, the closure of the company was inevitable,” said the Vöcklabruck district council, which discovered the stables were dirty during an inspection. As a result, the official veterinarians confirmed a significant deficiency in livestock farming.
Animals surrendered voluntarily
This was preceded by a tip from the population that got the ball rolling. The tip must have arrived in time, because the total of 42 cattle belonging to the overwhelmed farmer were still in good general condition and there was also sufficient food and water available.
The farmer – who is now under investigation for animal cruelty – eventually voluntarily gave up his 42 cattle and they were placed on other farms under the supervision of official veterinarians.
No food, hardly any water
Recently, as reported, another farm in the Vöcklabruck district was evacuated. The cattle were said to have lived there in cruel conditions: the feeding table was empty, the bedding area was heavily contaminated with feces and the water troughs were broken, police said at the time. 94 of the 105 cattle housed in these conditions had to be slaughtered due to their poor condition.
