The hacker attack on the Carinthian state government a few days ago still keeps IT experts on their toes. Now there are more details about what data the hackers had access to.
During the hacker attack on the Carinthian government, at least tens of thousands of personal data were viewed on Friday, according to Gerd Kurath of the state press service. More precisely, since 1999 there are 80,000 master data sheets of residence and residence permits, 4,000 contact details for event management and almost 200 gigabytes of data from internal correspondence from government members and employees. However, the leaked data is “just” names, dates of birth, addresses or phone numbers.
The office of Governor Peter Kaiser (SPÖ), his work environment and event management, as well as the offices of government members Beate Prettner (SPÖ), Gaby Schaunig (SPÖ), Martin Gruber (ÖVP) and Sebastian Schuschnig (ÖVP) have been particularly affected. A large part (200 gigabytes) could not be more precisely defined.
More than half has started again
More than half of the total of 102 IT systems have already been rebooted. Priority was given to those systems that are relevant to the citizen. The announced hotline for questions about data protection and the hacker attack can already be reached on 050 536 53003. If you have any questions, you can also contact us by email (info-cyberattacke@knt.gv.at and datenschutzbeauftragter@ktn.gv.at). the experts.
Kurath also apologized: “We apologize for this matter. Of course we can’t do anything about the hacker attack, but it still caused inconvenience to the citizens.”
