The operations manager (29) of a special unit from Laakirchen significantly helped in rescuing a 48-year-old woman from Bad Ischl who was injured in Rettenbach on Wednesday. The injured woman fell ten meters over an embankment at 50 degrees, landed in the water and was completely helpless. River rescuers saved them.
“The woman was completely relieved and very happy when we got to her,” says Anna Zimmermann, local branch manager of the Laakirchen water rescue service. The 29-year-old and her colleagues specialize in river rescue operations and are therefore called up for operations throughout Upper Austria.
On Wednesday, the special unit had to go out around 3 p.m. to look for people in the Rettenbachklamm near Bad Ischl. As reported, the disappearance of a 48-year-old local woman was reported to police around 1:45 p.m.
Dangerous maneuvers by motorists
“We were informed via a pager and then drove from Laakirchen to Bad Ischl in our emergency vehicle with our lights flashing,” Zimmermann said. Because the drivers sometimes reacted carelessly, the journey was not exactly easy. “For example, some people brake abruptly when a car with flashing lights appears behind them.” The Alpine police and fire brigade were also alerted.
Around 4 p.m., the kidnapper called a friend by telephone and explained that she urgently needed help. After falling over a steep slope, she lay in the Rettenbach and could not move.
The injured were rescued with a hoist
50 minutes later the injured woman was found in the water on the river bank. “We quickly rescued the woman who was lying on her back with a stretcher and handed her over to Red Cross paramedics,” explains Zimmermann, who regularly carries out such operations. Her conclusion: “It’s an absolutely good feeling when you can save people who are still alive. Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen that often for us.”
