An Upper Austrian has fallen for internet scams again. On Facebook he was promised high profits for a low investment. It was said that celebrities would also make a lot of money this way. Ultimately, the man lost 150,000 euros.
The 57-year-old from Feldkirchen an der Donau became aware of an alleged investment opportunity via an advertisement on Facebook. The ad featured famous people apparently making a big profit with a small amount of money.
Registered on website
The victim registered on the website and provided his telephone number, among other things. The unknown perpetrators then contacted them by telephone. The supposed ‘initial investment’ was only a few hundred euros. This relatively small amount left the 57-year-old’s inhibitions very low. The victim was then tricked into believing that he was making profits from investments and active trading.
Just paid for three months
Moreover, he was lured into further transfers by the promise of supposedly higher returns as his investment increased. The 57-year-old ultimately transferred a six-figure euro amount between the beginning of February and the end of May 2024.
