That could have ended badly: during a canyoning trip in Zammerberg in the Landeck district of Tyrol, a group of eight people were surprised on Friday by the sudden rise in the water level. The athletes were then rescued from the gorge by helicopter.
Led by a 25-year-old and a 28-year-old, three women and three men (28 to 40 years old) from Germany started the canyoning tour on the Kronburgbach in Zammerberg on Friday afternoon. About three hours after the start – the group was rappelling in the lower part of the trip – the water level in the gorge suddenly rose rapidly, police said.
Dropped off unharmed on the cycle path
The 25-year-old canyoning guide then made an emergency call for safety reasons. The C5 emergency medical helicopter and the Libelle police helicopter arrived. With the help of rope, they rescue all eight group members unharmed from the gorge and set them off on the Inntal cycle path.
The Landeck mountain rescue service, the rescue service and the Alpine police were also present.
