In the Australian state of Queensland the flood has increased after heavy rainfall (see video above). In a place that struck very badly, crocodiles were spotted.
The authorities asked the residents to be particularly careful. Australia is known for its dangerous animal world. “We are experiencing an important and long running weather event with record -breaking trail in many places,” said meteorologist Matthew Collopy. Various rivers stepped over the banks, the water continues. In Townsville in the northeast it rained as much within three days as in six months.
Schools and supermarkets closed
About 400 people were housed in evacuation centers. Sometimes the electricity, telephone lines and the internet were interrupted. Dozens of schools were closed at the start of the week, many supermarkets were also closed on Monday because they were partially flooded or could no longer be reached. The regional government calmed: the food supplies would be sufficient for at least six weeks.
According to meteorologists, further heavy rainfall is expected. It will probably take days before the situation relaxed, it said. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese wrote on the X Platform that the army was also in use to help people.
Summer is currently in Australia. In recent years there has been an extremely violent rainfall in the Tropical Queensland in this time of the year, in which records were broken. In the west of the country, however, people sweat in extreme heat. There the temperatures can rise to a maximum of 50 degrees Celsius.
