It is a very Austrian story that took place these days in Lenzing in Upper Austria. There, the residents of a settlement built 27 years ago received a letter from Energie AG. The contents came as a shock and caused anger among local residents. The company terminated the heat supply contracts – out of the blue.
The strange thing: the settlement was heated for 27 years with a temporary solution. During construction it was assumed that district heating would be used for heating in the future. However, until there were sufficient end customers, direct electricity heating was used to provide comfortable warmth. Over the past 27 years, the temporary arrangement has been repeatedly extended by five years. Now Energie AG pulled the plug on its customers and canceled the temporary arrangement.
