There will be a ferry connection – Aggsbach-Dorf: cycling season on the Danube secured!

Date:

The B33 and the Southern Danube Cycle Path, which is vital for tourism and the economy – with more than 12,000 cycling tourists every month – have been closed in Aggsbach-Dorf (Lower Austria) since June 3. On Wednesday, state governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP) announced a ferry service to take cyclists safely around the accident site. The north bank can still be used without restrictions.

This rescue measure aims to bring cycling tourism back to the southern bank of the Wachau. Detailed planning is currently being drawn up to enable it to be put into use at the start of the summer holidays.

The federal military also helps with equipment
The implementation is complex. The federal army will therefore also be available to help. This is important because the soldiers will provide platforms for the pier installation and “float in” the components for assembly.

In any case, from the start of the holiday, the planned ferry will be in use every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a transport capacity of about 40 people per hour. At peak times from Friday to Sunday and on public holidays, the transport performance can be doubled by deploying a second ferry.

“It’s like a bypass operation”
In addition, State Governor Mikl-Leitner will hold on-site talks with the companies next week to get an accurate picture of the current situation. “When a natural disaster occurs in Lower Austria, everyone works hand in hand. We help each other without looking at the clock. This is what sets Lower Austria apart and I would like to thank everyone who helps,” says Mikl-Leitner.

Mario Pulker, World Cup division president for gastronomy and leisure industry: “The falling of stones can be compared to a heart attack. The ferry for cyclists is the bypass operation to quickly revive cycling tourism.”
