Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has officially dissolved the six-member war cabinet, according to a government official.
The move was widely expected after former General Benny Gantz withdrew from the emergency government.
As expected, Gantz announced his withdrawal from the emergency government as minister without portfolio a week ago on Sunday. He had given Netanyahu an ultimatum weeks earlier after disagreements over the future of the Gaza Strip.
The opposition politician, who supported the right-wing coalition under Netanyahu with his alliance, has called for new elections. Netanyahu has a majority in parliament even without Gantz’s support.
