A fatal accident occurred on Monday at the Czech military training area Libava. The Ministry of Defense in Prague said a soldier was killed in an ammunition explosion.
Seven other professional soldiers and a civilian employee were injured in the accident. All those affected are members of the Czech Army’s Ammunition Supply Logistics Center, headquartered in Tyniste nad Orlici. It is not yet known what nationality the injured people have.
Military police started an investigation
The injured were taken to the university and military hospitals in Olomouc. It was initially unclear which type of ammunition exploded. Military police began an investigation into the cause of the accident.
The Libava military training area is located northeast of Olomouc and covers an area of 238 square kilometers. Most of it is not open to the public. Recently, activity on the site has increased significantly.
This year, the Czech army wants to train about 4,000 Ukrainian soldiers – including in Libava – to defend themselves against Russia.
