A freight train collided with an excavator between the Kritzendorf and St. Andrä-Wördern train stations in Lower Austria on Monday morning. There are delays on the route.
According to police reports, the railcar and the first two cars of the set derailed. The excavator was probably delivered to a construction site in Greifenstein around 9:30 am. During unloading, a shovel allegedly fell from a truck and fell over an embankment towards the track. It is said that the excavator operator may have tried to remove the shovel with the construction machine. The freight train, which arrived at the same time, collided with the arm of the excavator.
No one was injured, ÖBB confirmed. Florianis from the St. Andrä/Wördern and Altenberg fire brigades had to tie up the leaking hydraulic oil.
Delays for travelers
A replacement rail service on the Franz Josef Railway was established. The ÖBB announced on its website that no more travel is expected until 4 p.m. The rail replacement service was set up for the S-Bahn and regional transport. Passengers should spend an additional 20 minutes in the affected area.
