On Tuesday evening, a 48-year-old man fell into the Zaya near Mistelbach (Lower Austria). He said he slipped while picking cherries. He had to stay in the river for two hours.
Around 9 p.m., a concerned woman reported the incident to the state police of Lower Austria. She heard a man calling for help near the cycle path between Mistelbach and Paasdorf. Employees from the Mistelbach police station and the Guntersdorf police dog station were led to the location in question by the woman. The police also heard the cries for help and followed the screams.
In the Zaya they finally discovered the man screaming for help. Completely exhausted, he could barely keep his head above the water’s surface. The muddy ground prevented him from freeing himself from the river. The police officers eventually managed to pull the 48-year-old from the Zaya.
Two hours in the water
Fortunately, the man was not injured. The victim said he slipped on the steep bank while picking cherries and fell into the river – two hours before being rescued by police.
