Neckline too low: woman was not allowed on the plane

Date:

This rejection cost Vueling dearly: the Spanish price fighter was fined 28,000 euros because a passenger was refused access to the plane due to a neckline that was too low.

The incident at Mallorca airport, which took place five years ago, has now become public. Accordingly, a woman was allegedly refused access to a Vueling machine because her cleavage was too revealing.

Other passengers expressed solidarity with the woman and demanded that the flight attendants allow her to fly with them. Yet she stayed behind.

Passenger discriminated against
According to the Balearic newspaper Ultima Hora, a Vueling employee found the woman’s clothing too provocative and left her at the airport. A Spanish consumer protection organization subsequently sued the airline, leading to the imposition of the fine. The authority argued that the passenger had been discriminated against by being turned away.

The consumer advocates emphasized that the woman had not broken any laws and that her clothing was not offensive. The airline employee showed “sexist undertones”.
