The families knew each other. “It was about a girl,” said lawyer Rudolf Mayer, who represents two of the defendants. During an arranged discussion between the families who were once friends, things escalated in Floridusgasse (21st). The suspects had knives and firearms with them and also used them after they were attacked with their fists. That evening in Vienna, three opponents fell on the street with gunshot wounds and suffered life-threatening injuries.
Five months probation to seven years in prison
From the start of the trial, the defendants pleaded ‘not guilty’ to attempted murder and spoke of an attack by the others that had escalated. The defensive strategy was successful. On Monday, the jury at the Vienna Regional Court acquitted them of attempted murder. The father and the youngest accused son were sentenced to five and seven years’ imprisonment for intentionally causing grievous bodily harm, while the other two sons were sentenced to 36 months’ imprisonment (12 of which were unconditional) and five months’ imprisonment for grievous bodily harm and affray , respectively.
