The investigation yielded new findings after the discovery of a body last Friday in the Raab in the Jennersdorf district. According to the police, there are no indications of foul play.
As reported, a swimmer discovered the dead man in the Raab between Neumarkt and Rax. She immediately raised the alarm. The lifeless body was caught between branches near the shore. Since then, the investigation has been in full swing.
Cause of death unclear
During the autopsy of the male corpse, it was determined that foul play could be ruled out. “There are no indications of foul play,” confirms Lieutenant Colonel Helmut Marban of the state police headquarters in Eisenstadt. It is still being investigated whether the man’s death was caused by an accident or possibly by sudden cardiac death.
Research difficult
As expected, identifying the body proved extremely difficult. The dead man had probably been floating in the water for several weeks and was disfigured beyond recognition. The foreigner had no papers with him. “Further investigation is now required to identify the individual,” the report said on Monday.
Identity clarified
Hours later, the man’s identity was confirmed. The dead man was a Styrian from the Weiz district. The 48-year-old had been reported missing since early June.
