There is a threat of a hefty punishment – bomb threat: There is still no trace of the caller

Date:

The investigation is in full swing following the anonymous bomb threat that forced the evacuation of Innsbruck’s main station on Sunday evening. The police are looking for the caller. If he is exposed, a severe punishment awaits him. The researchers hope for possible information from the public.

“We are at the beginning of the investigation,” police spokesman Stefan Eder told the “Krone” on Monday morning. The search is on for the person who called state police headquarters around 8:20 PM on Sunday and threatened to bomb the central station. “We will not reveal what exactly he threatened and what the wording was,” Eder explained. For reasons of investigation or interrogation tactics, knowledge that only the perpetrator can have should not be leaked to the outside world.

Researchers are hoping for clues
The detectives’ approach is the phone call on Sunday evening. “These are usually very lengthy investigations,” the police spokesperson describes the procedure. If anyone can help clear up the matter, they should contact the police, Eder also appealed to the public.

“Dangerous threat”: severe penalties
The police strongly advise potential imitators against taking such actions. If the anonymous caller is found, he faces severe penalties: under certain circumstances, police say a maximum of five years in prison is possible.

The motive in the Innsbruck case is of course still unclear. “People caught in similar cases were often under the influence of alcohol or other substances,” says Eder. “That is not an excuse and it does not change the sentence. Such an operation also costs a lot of money.”

Large-scale operation with dozens of emergency services
Dozens of officers went out on Sunday evening to clear the central station, cordon off a large area and check for explosives. As reported, the Cobra task force and several explosive detection dogs were also present. They searched the platforms and the hall and also checked rubbish bins.

Shortly before 10 p.m. the signal was finally given: no bomb was found, the evacuation could be canceled and train traffic could be resumed.
