Suddenly there were flames in the engine compartment: The 59-year-old man from the district of Spittal (Carinthia) was driving on the Großglockner state road towards Heiligenblut on Friday and got out immediately when he saw the fire.
The fire quickly spread and within a very short time the excavator was completely engulfed. Fortunately, the Heiligenblut, Mörtschach and Apriach fire brigades arrived on time. The entire road was closed for firefighting and until the wheeled excavator was recovered.
The fire brigade was able to extinguish the fire quickly enough to prevent greater damage. The cause of the flames in the engine compartment was probably a technical defect. Everyone involved was unharmed.
