600 young pigs – in one transport truck: and without water at these temperatures. An animal transporter was taken out of service in the Tyrolean lowlands on Tuesday. The fire brigade was called in and eventually provided the pigs with water.
On Tuesday afternoon around 2:30 p.m., the animal transporter was examined at the checkpoint on the Kundl highway (Kufstein district). According to the police, there were a total of 600 pigs that were to be transported to Italy.
During the inspection, officials discovered “that the animals were apparently not provided with sufficient water,” the director said.
Ventilation also failed
But that’s not all: the official veterinarians involved also discovered that in addition to the lack of water, there was also a lack of ventilation for the animals.
Continued journey after repair
This alerted the fire brigade and eventually provided the animals with water. After the ventilation was repaired and the transport was approved by the official veterinarians, the truck was allowed to continue its journey towards Italy, the investigators continued.
A bond was requested from the two drivers – a woman and a man from Belarus, aged 33 and 39.
