According to a media report, the EU will reimpose tariffs on imports of sugar and eggs from Ukraine from tomorrow, Friday. The amount will be 89 euros per tonne, the Financial Times reported, citing people familiar with the process.
The EU had decided on tariff reductions to support Ukrainian agriculture, which had been hit by Russia’s war of aggression. However, this led to protests from farmers in the EU.
Tariffs also apply to Ukrainian oats
They complained about cheap imports, loss of market share, lower revenues and unfair competition. As a result, a kind of emergency braking mechanism was decided for certain agricultural products, which should come into effect if the import limits are exceeded. According to the Financial Times, this emergency brake is now being pulled in the same way as with the Ukrainian oats.
