At least five people were killed and five others injured in a collision between a EuroCity train and a bus in Slovakia early on Thursday evening.
According to local media, the collision took place near Nove Zamky, about 110 kilometers east of the Slovak capital Bratislava. The EuroCity was on its way from the Czech capital Prague to the Hungarian capital Budapest when the serious accident occurred, reports AP news agency.
Video footage (see tweet above) shows that the train’s locomotive was on fire and the bus was severely damaged in the collision. The important railway line connecting Bratislava with Budapest is closed until further notice, the report said.
According to the Slovak railway company ZSSK, the more than a hundred stranded passengers from the crashed train were taken by bus to the town of Sturovo on the Hungarian border.
