After the Alm death tragedy – shot! 6 runaway cattle will not live to see July

Date:

The authorities were certain until the end: unlike the Alpine tragedy in the Gastein Valley in Salzburg, in which a mother died, the six animals did not pose a threat. The Scottish Highlanders were shy and had been faithfully roaming their farm in the Waldviertel for almost a month. They masterfully warded off intensive attempts to capture them. Unfortunately – because now they are dead.

Witnesses say they saw highland cattle roaming freely in the Waldviertel on June 2. In any case, the authorities were called in on June 10. Since then, intensive attempts to recapture the animals have been made almost every day, but all have been unsuccessful. Now the owner asked to shoot the animals. The “Krone” accompanied the hunt for the shy but loyal animals to the end, which was carried out with fire brigade drones, volunteers, the police and also representatives of authorities such as the official veterinarian.

Weeks of exhausting hunting
On Thursday, June 27, the endless hours that the farmer must have spent intensively catching his original eight cattle in recent weeks came to an end. Meanwhile, two animals returned home independently.
