In Frankfurt am Main, drivers are rewarded with a Germany ticket for one year if they deregister their vehicle. This is intended to make the transition from private cars to public transport easier.
According to city councilor Wolfgang Siefert (Greens), the environmental bonus will be available from July 1 and will amount to 588 euros. That’s another year’s worth of tickets costing 49 euros (which are valid for one month, mind you). To take advantage of the offer, citizens must have their main residence in Frankfurt am Main and have scrapped or sold or given away a combustion engine car to people outside the household no more than three months ago. It doesn’t matter if they have more cars.
50-60 requests per month
The Frankfurt-based transport company expects 50 to 60 applications per month. The city is expected to invest 420,000 euros annually for this. An extract from the vehicle registration is required for the application. To ensure that the bonus is not abused, random checks are planned to ensure that citizens have not bought a new car.
Mobility Councilor Siefert justified the move by saying that cars would take up significantly more urban space and would often park in parking lots for long periods, especially in the city center.
1250 euro bonus in Marburg
The city of Marburg (Hessen) also recently introduced a bonus. Anyone who deregisters there for a year or gets rid of their private car will receive 1,250 euros. With a voucher, people can share cars, travel by bus and train or pay in shops and restaurants for a year.
